If you’ve never seen a video by Lee Lefever, they’re lots of fun. We’re big fans of his work.
I’ve found his videos to be useful when explaining social media to clients. You might too.
Twitter recently published a great site for businesses on how to use twitter.

We hope you check it out. And please note the part about Following churn, which is against both the TwitterMass and Twitter terms of service. The key is to follow the right people, not a HUGE number of people.
This is big news. Because retweeting is one of the most important aspects of marketing with twitter, the announcement that twitter will formally include this in their feature set is also very important.
Developers will utilize this data in many ways. One feature we will look to build is the ability to determine the best people to include in your network based on their prior retweeting history.

Our local follow and autofollow tools can be of great use, especially if your business has specific keywords related to it.
One idea for helping you figure out what keywords are relevant is to use the google keyword tool. This tool is great to help you focus your keyword follows to more specific phrases – thus making sure you are following those people most relevant to your business.
As I’ve written before, getting a retweet is very important.
Seth Godin has lots to say about being remarkable. Remarkable tweets get retweeted. For example, this pizza place offered free ice cream one afternoon. It was retweeted within minutes here and here. And then a few minutes later one of the retweets was itself retweeted here. The people who retweeted the original tweet had over 1,000 followers – considerably more than the paltry 25 followers the pizza place has. Not bad for getting the word out.
There have been many articles about getting retweet written by some very bright people. My favorite article is by Guy Kawasaki: How to get retweeted
Retweet: The Real Value of Twitter Networks
Do you remember the old Faberge Hair commercial?
You’ll tell two friends, and they’ll tell to friends and so on, and so on….
With Twitter, retweets are when your friends tell two friends. Except with twitter, it might not just be two friends, it might be hundreds or thousands. And THAT is the power of an active social network for your organization.
If your tweets aren’t retweeted, you’re missing out on the power of the social network aspect of twitter. You might as well be using an email marketing list.
Think about the numbers. If you have 1,000 followers and they have an average of 500 followers. Your message that is retweeted by 10% of your followers (100) would be seen by 50,000 people. Fifty. Thousand. People. That’s a lot more than your followers.
So, how do you get retweeted? We’ll cover that in a future post.
Well, we’ve finally come out of beta and have our basic features for auto following on twitter. We’re excited to be help people grow their twitter community in a smart and focused way.
The future of TwitterMass will include more focus on local following, measuring your followers and retweets, and helping you choose which people to follow based on more than just what they have tweeted in the past. (Hint: There is useful meta information stored in a users profile.)
For now, we’re happy to be helping people and organizations get more out of their social marketing efforts.
